It'll be autumn soon, which also means Ramaskrik is just around the corner! We are delighted to share with you four films that you can see on Ramaskrik Film Festival this year.

In a Violent Nature
(Canada, 2024)
Directed by: Chris Nash, English, not subtitled, 94 min

In a Violent Nature barely has a plot. The film expects that we as audience members put the story together through small narrative glimpses of what makes a typical slasher. Because in this film, we are following the murder througout the entirety of the film, where he slowly and determined wanders around the forest in search for his next victim.

All that matters is the next kill. In a Violent Nature is a meditative and ultra violent deconstruction of the slasher film, and it may have the most memorable kill out of all the films during this years festival!

Les Femmes au balcon
(France, 2024)
Directed by: Noémie Merlant, French, norwegian subtitles,105 min

During a heat wave in Marsielles, three friends spends their time on the balcony observing and interfering the lives of their neighbours. Then everything goes south when an innocent party turns into a bloodbath.

The Balconettes is a sexy, violent and sweaty feministic, black horror comedy. It's colourful and bonkers, but also serious and heartbreaking. Director Nóemie Merlant, who also plays one of the friends, has made a brave and entertaining fist of a film!

Dead Mail
(USA, 2024)
Directed by: Kyle McConaghy, Joe DeBoer, English language, not subtitled, 106 min

On the countryside in the mid-west, a tied up man drags himself towards a mailbox. The moment he drops a bloody letter in the box, a figure appears behind him and drags him back. The letter finds it way to a post office where three employees investigate "Dead Mail", post with no adress.

Their investigation takes us on a trip that includes kidnapping, torture, synthesizers and oran music. The film has a gorgeous 80's aesthetic that is dominated by yellow-brown and thouroughly down smoked small rooms. The film drags along in a leisurely tempo that is only interrupted by small and very unpleasant glimpses of violence.

Strange Harvest: Occult Murder in the Inland Empire
(USA, 2023)
Directed by: Stuart Ortiz, English language, subtitled/not subtitled 93 min

Nordic premiere! During the 90's, police in Calfornia investigated a series of murders that bore the mark of occult rituals. Cryptic letters warned of more murders to come, but then things went quiet. During a call out in 2010 however, the police found new corpses. The victims were battered grotesquely and they were linked to the other unsolved murdercases.

The film includes news reports, the polices own recordings and interviews with investigators who try to figure out what happened. This is no ordinary true crime documentary and we should warn of unpleasant and graphic imagery. Tip: Sit through the whole end credits.
