We continue our film announcements with five fresh titles from the wide world of horror. These are five Norwegian premieres: Influencers, Dooba Dooba, The Rows, Redux Redux, and Adorable Humans.
We kick things off with some delicious discomfort in Dooba Dooba. This is worn-out VHS aesthetics and claustrophobic unease from director Ehrland Hollingsworth. We meet the babysitter who realizes something is off — and for some reason, the entire house is under video surveillance.
Let’s stay in the “same-word-twice-in-the-title” category with Redux Redux. We saw this one early and thought: YES! We need this. Our programmer Torbjørn caught the film in an ecstatic screening at the Neuchâtel Fantastic Film Festival this summer. There was no doubt. The McManus brothers have created a unique film blending science fiction elements with classic revenge tropes and moments of painful, brutal violence. One of the true gems of the festival.
Moving on to Nordic cinema with Adorable Humans. Every horror film festival needs at least one anthology film, and when we found a brand-new Danish one based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, we were thrilled — it’s wonderful to be Danish in Norway. Four directors and four stories twisted in our horrific direction.
The Rows was discovered at London FrightFest recently. The debut film from Seth Daly follows a young girl fleeing murderous villains through a cornfield in the U.S. The story unfolds through three non-chronological chapters that slowly reveal what’s going on. Who are these masked killers? Why are they hunting Lucy? And most importantly, who is the golden man living among the rows of corn?
Influencers comes from someone we know well from Ramaskrik over the years — Canadian Kurtis David Harder, producer and director involved in films like Harpoon, Spiral, What Keeps You Alive, Still/Born, and Z. Influencers is a smart and energetic film about digital identity, where the bodies pile up and not everything is as it seems. We’re taken on a nerve-wracking journey from French castle landscapes to palm trees and parties in Bali.
See all the films we’ve announced so far We’ll have over 35 feature films, a whole range of short films, and other exciting events. The full program will be ready by the end of September.
