Oppdal is the place to be for horror film lovers in October. Te fifteenth edition of Norway’s scariest film festival takes place on October 15–19.

– We're expanding the festival with an extra day and the biggest Ramaskrik program ever. The festival now kicks off already on Wednesday, October 15 (previously Thursday), featuring 37 feature films, two short film programs, and school screenings in collaboration with The Cultural Schoolbag, says festival director Morten Haagensen.

In addition to all the films, audiences will meet a wide range of Norwegian and international guests who will present their films, participate in talks, and host podcasts or presentations. There will be horror films in three screening rooms, a 15th anniversary outdoor screening of Trollhunter in the Wilderness Camp, and a pool screening of Jaws celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In the foyer, there will be two live podcasts: Norsk kultfilm discussing Norwegian cult films (in Norwegian), and we'll search for the ultimate date movie with the American podcast A Couple of Old Fashioneds.

Our audience can also experience panel discussions on millennial horror (with filmmakers from the early 2000s), master presentations about horror from NTNU, and a dedicated SFX workshop.

The festival also hosts the Méliès d’argent short film competition – a semi-final for Europe’s best short films in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. Ramaskrik is Norway’s only Méliès-affiliated festival – www.melies.org

– 2025 is a very strong year for horror. We see this in both cinema releases and international and Norwegian box office numbers. Ramaskrik is Norway’s largest horror film event and offers a range and diversity in the genre that is truly unique in the country. Here, you’ll mostly see brand-new horror films – both upcoming theatrical releases like Black Phone 2 and Exit 8, and films fresh from international festivals, such as Flush, Redux Redux, The Serpent’s Skin, and Boorman and the Devil. We’re also screening relevant classics like The Descent (20th anniversary) with director Neil Marshall in attendance, and Wrong Turn 2 with director Joe Lynch. Documentary filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe has also curated two classics under the theme “hands in horror”: La Main du Diable and The Hands of Orlac.

Norwegian Horror and Cult Film
A number of Norwegian filmmakers are bringing their horror films to Oppdal – including new films, classics, and works in progress. Thea Hvistendahl with Handling the Undead, Patrik Syversen with Demring, and John M. Jacobsen and Hallvard Bræin will join us for the anniversary screening of Trollhunter. Jon Helge Hesby brings his The Woodsman IV from Jæren, and from the same region, director Fredrik S. Hana will present his work-in-progress projects: the feature film Planet and the short film Mancave. Roar Uthaug (Cold Prey, Troll, etc.) will join us for a live talk on 2000s horror / millennial horror. We’ll also be joined by director Mikkel B. Sandemose for our school screenings.

International Guests
A number of international guests are coming to Oppdal to meet our audience. Babak Anvari (Hallow Road), Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2), Rebecca Howard (podcast host / editor), Neil Marshall (The Descent), Seth Daly (The Rows), and Alexandre O. Philippe (curator). Additional filmmakers from the Méliès d’argent short film competition will also be attending.
